Coating systems

Our durable 2K epoxy resin primers from ROMEX® provide optimal protection for a wide variety of surfaces such as steel, concrete and asphalt. They are resistant, anti-slip and resistant to chemicals. In addition to tested systems such as our OS 8 coating for multi-storey and underground car parks, ROMEX® is one of the leading suppliers of ESD coatings. The range is complemented by EP and PU sealants, which are available in glossy or matt, rough or smooth, coloured or transparent finishes – the right solution for every application.

OS 8 car park system

Our ROMEX® parking garage system for heavily trafficked and mechanically highly stressed surfaces without crack bridging corresponds to test class OS 8 and consists of two components: ROMPOX ® 1506OS epoxy resin primer and ROMPOX ® 1005OS epoxy resin top coat / sealer. When applying the primer, it is important to first check the condition of the substrate. It must be firm, even, dry, free of oil, grease, release agents and dust. Loose parts and other dirt must be removed. As a rule, the surface to be treated should be prepared by shot-blasting, but in some cases milling or grinding may also be necessary. The actual priming with ROMPOX ® 1506OS is done simply with a rubber squeegee. Attention: After priming, all pores of the substrate must be closed. For a car park coating of about 1.5 millimetres, the surface is scattered with quartz sand (sweep off after hardening, if necessary sand and vacuum the surface) and the top coat is applied with ROMPOX® 1005OS Coating. This is applied with a single-lip hard rubber squeegee or a smoothing trowel, sharply removed and then rolled.

OS 11 car park system

The rigid system ROMEX® OS 8 offers protection for floor slabs and surfaces in contact with the ground subjected to the highest mechanical, chemical and thermal loads. Wherever reliable crack prevention is required, our ROMEX® OS 11 systems are used. In particular, on open decks, which are frequently exposed to changing temperatures between the top and bottom sides and later also to thermal stresses, crack-bridging coatings are required. The ROMEX® OS 11a system offers long-lasting, reliable, crack-bridging The floating layer of ROMPUR® 2605OS provides the necessary crack-bridging and is permanently protected by the subsequent wear layer of ROMPUR® 2606OS. The final polyurethane-based sealant, ROMPUR® 2607OS, provides the necessary light stability. In covered intermediate decks, dynamic alternating stresses can cause cracks For these areas, the ROMEX® OS 11b system is the right solution. It offers reliable protection against aggressive media penetrating into the structure. The elastic ROMPUR® 2605OS is used here as a wearing layer and the top sealer ROMPOX® 1006OS provides the necessary protection against mechanical and chemical stresses.

ESD coating system

ROMPOX® 1107 ESD Coating is an electrically conductive, mechanically and chemically resistant self-levelling coating. It is used in production areas of the electrical industry, PCB production, laboratories, operating theatres, computer rooms and the automotive industry, as well as in other areas with EPA requirements. It fulfils the requirements according to DIN EN 61340-5-1. ROMPOX® 1107 fulfils the volume resistance according to VDE 0100-600 (2008) electrode 1 (three-prong electrode) of > 50,000 Ohm, corresponding to the limit requirement according to VDE 0100-410. ROMPOX® 1107 ESD Coating is an easy-care coating with a high abrasion resistance. It is chemically resistant to alkalis, salt solutions and diluted acids, as well as mineral oils. Damage can be caused to electrical components by uncontrolled electrostatic discharges, particularly in electronics manufacturing, industrial electronics, computer technology, telecommunications technology or automotive electronics. This happens unnoticed. Even a discharge of 100 volts can damage components. The result is high financial losses and even failures, for example, due to product recalls. Our chemically and mechanically resistant ESD coating, which guarantees a controlled discharge when used as a floor covering, prevents this damage! In addition, it ensures unhindered movement for both transport and work. Every workplace is protected. If the coating system ‘person - shoe - floor’ is used as the main measure for grounding people, the specifications required by DIN 61340-5-1 are met with ROMPOX® 1107 ESD Coating.

Structure coating

When advising end customers from various industries, we often hear the desire for a non-slip floor that prevents accidents and complies with workplace guidelines and the regulations of the employers' liability insurance association. At the same time, the floor should remain easy to clean. Meeting these requirements has been a challenge so far and could often only be realised by using matt sealants in combination with glass beads or other additives to achieve a slip resistance of classes R9 or R10. However, this presents a problem in areas subject to heavy chemical and mechanical wear, as matt sealers are often only applied in a low layer thickness of 0.120 kg/m², which limits their lifespan. A ‘real’ slip resistance of R10 - R13 for heavily used areas in industry or in car parks is therefore still achieved by quartz sand scattering (R10 - R11 with 0. 3-0.8 mm quartz sand: 3-4 kg/m², R12 - R13 with 0.7-1.2 mm quartz sand: 3-4 kg/m²). These floors with quartz sand dressing have proven themselves and are very durable, but have the disadvantage that they are difficult to clean because of the fully sanded quartz sand surface, which tends to absorb dirt between the grains. In addition, full-surface quartz sand scattering is problematic when renovating during operation, as an enormous amount of dust is created during processing, which can hardly be avoided even when using low-dust, innovative quartz sands. The innovative ROMPOX® 1070 Thix is a structural coating that, through the mixing of fillers, always achieves a reproducible, predefined level of slip resistance with good cleanability. The epoxy resin system is chemically and mechanically resilient and is mainly used for the required slip resistance levels R10 - R11. Since the fillers are mixed into the coating instead of being scattered on top, there is no dust formation and adjacent work areas, e.g. during renovations during operation, are not affected. In addition, the processing is much more pleasant for the processor, since 90% of the quartz sand is saved with this method and the time-consuming scattering, sweeping and vacuuming is no longer necessary. For a surface area of 1,000 m², approx. 4,000 kg of quartz sand is applied to the surface using conventional quartz sand bedding, whereas only 50 kg of filler is needed for ROMPOX® 1070 Thix. In areas prone to cracking, ROMPOX® 1080 Thix is used as an elasticised coating system, with a correspondingly elastic substrate with ROMPOX® 1505 Flex and ROMPOX® 1080 Elastic Coating.
