Water-permeable | Safety in the system | High load-bearing capacity | Trass additives reduce efflorescence
The quality and stability of a paved surface depends largely on the choice and use of the right bedding material or drainage mortar. ROMEX® offers you high-quality special products for this purpose, such as ROMPOX® - TRASS BED and ROMPOX® - ADHESION ELUTRIANT. They guarantee an effective and drainable bedding and, in combination with ROMEX® paving joint mortars, offer a permanent solution against frequent paving damage such as rutting, settlement and displacement. The use of these products in accordance with the regulations ZTV Wegebau and VOB Part C not only ensures the dimensional stability and force transmission of the paved surface, but also allows you to take advantage of our ROMEX® SYSTEM GUARANTEE. Our ROMEX® bedding products are suitable for various construction methods and ensure proper and permanently stable paving.

Go to ProductThe German guideline ZTV-Wegebau describes all common construction methods for paving and slab coverings for non-public areas and is of great importance for the paving contractor, as it regulates all designs for private clients. The permissible construction methods described therein include the fully bonded construction method and the mixed construction method with bonded bedding for surfaces that are walked on and for surfaces that are driven on with vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tons. Ceramic slabs in use category N1 (pedestrians only) with a nominal thickness of less than 3 cm must also be laid in bonded bedding and with a fixed joint.
Our high-quality trass bedding mortars are used in the fully bonded construction method and the mixed construction method with bonded bedding. These include ROMPOX® - 302 CEM-TB, a ready-mixed bedding mortar that is only mixed with water, and ROMPOX® - 303 CEM-TC, a compound for producing a bedding mortar, as a more cost-effective alternative for larger construction projects. Both variants are highly permeable to water. This means that, on the one hand, water and moisture cannot rise capillary in the bedding layer and, on the other hand, water that penetrates the surface is drained downwards.
The trass mineral it contains binds lime particles from the Portland cement and neutralizes them. The great advantage is that the risk of waterlogging, efflorescence and discoloration is greatly reduced compared to conventional Portland cement products without trass minerals. Our polymer-modified adhesion elutriant (thin set) ROMPOX® - 304 CEM-HS is used as a bonding agent between the bedding and the stone. The final step is one of our pavement jointing mortars that meets the requirements.
This system, which has been tried and tested for decades, forms the basis of our RSG. With the professional installation of these products, you can create a durable, permanently functional surface and also benefit from our system guarantee.
When laid professionally in accordance with the German ZTV Road Construction Guideline and with our ROMEX® system of bedding mortar, bonding slurry and pavement jointing mortar, we offer a 10-year guarantee on the construction work. In this way, we double the statutory guarantee of five years for Contractors and specialist companies. The ROMEX® SYSTEM GUARANTEE therefore offers real added value for every Contractor and means security for clients, planners and specialist companies.
ROMEX® is the first and only manufacturer in the paving and slab construction sector to offer its customers such a guarantee, which goes beyond the statutory warranty. Another advantage: the guarantee applies not only to private projects, but also in the public sector.

Trend theme ceramics
The professional laying of ceramic slabs less than 2 cm thick is not regulated in Germany and is not a recognized technical rule. According to the German ZTV guidelines, ceramic slabs with a slab thickness of 2 cm are only approved for use category N1 (pedestrians only). For N2 (vehicle load up to 3.5 t), the nominal thickness of the tile must be at least 3 cm. The tiles must be sufficiently slip-resistant (at least R10) and must not exceed a length-to-width ratio of 3 to 1.
Permissible construction methods in usage category 1 (pedestrians):
To ensure good water permeability in the bonded construction method, it should always be avoided that the ROMPOX® - CEM 304-HS adhesion elutriant (thin set) “swells out” on the stone/slab side during installation. As an adhesive and bonding agent, it is impermeable to water and would therefore seal the joint at these points. This can be avoided by scraping off the adhesive elutriant approx. 5 cm from the edge of the stone or slab, e.g. with a trowel.
Expansion joints, especially at bordering structures, are essential to absorb stresses in the bonded construction method. These stresses are caused by various factors such as temperature fluctuations, the absorption and release of moisture, material shrinkage and vertical stresses due to load transfer. Without suitable expansion joints, such stresses could lead to cracks and damage to the building substance.
