Jakob-Scheiner-Platz is located in the heart of Siegen’s lower town: a pedestrian zone directly on the Sieg River, between the bustling Bahnhofstraße and the historic facade of the Apollo Theater. It is one of the few squares in downtown Siegen that is equally well integrated in terms of urban planning, culture, and transportation, and for this very reason has been a focus of urban development and site maintenance for years.

Requirements and Challenges

The square exhibits significant damage in the area of the paving joints. The joint material originally used was merely loosely applied and thus did not provide a durable bond. Due to prolonged exposure to rain and routine sweeping by the street sweeper, the joint material was continuously washed out over time. As a result of both factors, the joints are now largely empty, which jeopardizes the stability of the pavement and creates an immediate need for action.

ROMPOX® - D2000 was used for the permanent repair of the washed-out joints. The reactive epoxy resin joint material offers a decisive advantage over loose joint sand: After curing, it forms a solid, water-permeable bond that is permanently resistant to both rainwater and mechanical stress from sweepers—precisely the two causes of damage that had led to the failure of the original material at Jakob-Scheiner-Platz.

ROMPOX® - D2000 is specifically designed for high-traffic public areas and meets the requirements for an inner-city plaza with pedestrian and vehicular traffic. The material was professionally applied by trained specialists from Otto Schneider GmbH, who poured it into the existing joints without having to remove the existing pavement—a significant advantage during ongoing city operations.
