Redevelopment of Poznań's City Center

As part of a comprehensive renovation of Poznań’s historic center, the city opted for a stylistically appropriate renewal of the paved areas in the downtown area and the Old Town Square. The goal was to modernize the existing infrastructure while preserving the historic cityscape.

Over an area of approximately 20,000 m², Italian granite stones were combined with historic reclaimed paving. The result is a high-quality paved surface that blends harmoniously with the architecture and atmosphere of the Old Town.

Requirements and Challenges

The central challenge was to preserve the historic character of the urban space while ensuring the surface could withstand long-term heavy use. In addition to selecting the right paving stones, the joint solution therefore played a particularly crucial role.

The joints had to withstand the daily stresses of car and delivery traffic over the long term while also contributing to the high-quality overall appearance of the renovated downtown areas. Since the work took place in a busy downtown environment, the renovation was carried out in sections over a period of two years.

ROMEX® Solution

In close consultation with the local ROMEX® representative, the decision was made to use the two-component epoxy resin paving joint mortar ROMPOX® - D1. The material is particularly suitable for high-quality natural stone paving surfaces in historically sensitive urban areas and impresses with its high strength, weather resistance, and long-term durability.

The solid jointing stabilizes the paving surface in the long term and protects it against erosion and material loss. At the same time, ROMPOX® - D1 supports the long-term functionality of the surface under daily use by pedestrians, vehicles, and delivery traffic.
