800 m² of existing pavement restoration using ROMPOX® - D1
Lorenz-Wingerter-Platz is located in the heart of Hauenstein and serves as a central hub in the town center. As part of an upcoming renovation of the existing stone paving, the approximately 800 m² square was completely restored in just five days.
The goal of the project was to preserve the historic stone paving, improve its functionality, and at the same time restore it to a condition where it could be used and maintained long-term.
The existing natural stone paving showed signs of damage due to age and wear. Defective and unusable natural stones had to be replaced in advance to create a stable and even foundation for the subsequent renovation.
In addition, existing weeds in the joints had to be removed. Special high-pressure cleaners were used for this purpose to thoroughly clean the joints and prepare them for the new grouting. A particular challenge lay in the tight joint structure of the historic small-stone porphyry paving, which required a suitably appropriate jointing material.
For grouting the porphyry small-stone paving, the proven 2-component paving joint mortar ROMPOX® - D1 in the color neutral was used. The product can be applied starting at a joint width of 3 mm and is therefore particularly well-suited for historic paved areas with narrow joints.
The solid jointing permanently stabilizes the paving surface, reduces the regrowth of weeds, and significantly lowers maintenance requirements. At the same time, the historic character of the small stone paving is preserved.
The renovation was carried out by a ROMEX® service partner who uses exclusively ROMEX® products. This ensured professional execution within the tight timeframe.
The renovation of Lorenz-Wingerter-Platz in Hauenstein demonstrates how historic paved areas can be professionally restored in a short period of time and enhanced for the long term. ROMPOX® - D1 provided a durable, resilient, and low-maintenance joint solution that is particularly well-suited for the narrow joint spacing of the small porphyry cobblestones. This preserves the square’s historic character while significantly improving its functionality and usability.
